Characters: colorless cubic crystal, white or off-white, granular, honeycomb, spherical, irregular granular, powdery. Non-toxic, odorless, slightly bitter taste. Highly hygroscopicity, easy deliquescence when exposed to air. Insoluble in organic solvents, aqueous solution is weakly alkaline, 10% aqueous solution, PH value is 7-9, soluble in water (give off a lot of heat), ethanol, acetone, acetic acid, formic acid, hydrazine, pyridine and acetamide, insoluble in ether. The solubility of calcium chloride in water is very high. It can dissolve 59.5 grams of calcium chloride in 100 grams of water at 0℃, 74g in 20℃, and 159 grams in 100℃. The solution crystallizes at low temperature and precipitates into hexahydrate, which is gradually dissolved in its own crystalline water when heated to 30℃, then gradually loses water when heated to 200℃, then becomes dihydrate when reheated to 260℃ and becomes white porous anhydrous calcium chloride.
